A ceremonial award ceremony for the winners of the “Best Internship Base – 2026” video contest was held at the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov as part of the university’s 30th anniversary celebration.
The contest became an important platform for strengthening partnership between the university and employers, as well as for showcasing best practices in organizing students’ professional training. Its main objective was to identify high-quality video materials reflecting a high standard of internship implementation, to exchange successful experiences, and to develop cooperation between departments and internship bases. Special attention was given to enhancing students’ competitiveness and expanding interaction with potential employers.
The contest was held in three stages and brought together 30 internship bases. Following the selection process, 13 best organizations were awarded diplomas and special nominations.
The Grand Prix of the video contest was awarded to BI Group, Modex Plant. For many years, BI Group, Modex Plant has served as an industrial branch of the Department of Industrial and Civil Construction Technology. Graduates of the educational programs 6B07322 – “Industrial and Civil Construction,” 6B07361 – “Production of Building Materials, Products and Structures,” 7M07361 – “Production of Building Materials, Products and Structures,” and 7M07330 – “Technologies of Industrial and Civil Construction” are successfully employed by BI Group.
The anniversary contest once again confirmed that successful internship practice is not merely a mandatory stage of education, but a strategic tool for training in-demand and competitive specialists.
On February 10, 2026, a seminar on the topic "Heat-resistant concretes based on cement binders and metallurgical industry waste" was held at the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of L. N. Gumilev Eurasian National University.
The speaker was Akimbekova Samal Totayyzy, a doctoral student of the educational program 8D07361 - "Production of Building Materials, Products, and Structures." The main direction of development in construction is the use of new materials, reducing the material intensity, ensuring the mechanization and industrialization of construction, increasing the performance characteristics of products and structures, and introducing waste-free technologies in the production of construction materials, including the use of industrial waste.
As practice shows, the formation of multi-tonnage waste occurs in industrial areas, and the nomenclature of substandard raw materials has a wide range. However, the widespread use of waste is difficult due to high transportation and other costs, so it is advisable to use it in the regions where it is concentrated. To solve this problem, first of all, waste-generating enterprises should change their approach to the status of these formations, i.e., treat waste as a promising and inexpensive raw material and use various innovative technologies that involve the use of technogenic resources. For example, in the ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy industries, slag, beneficiation sludge, etc. are produced, and various thermal units are used to produce metals, which require continuous repair and maintenance of furnaces using special heat-resistant, fire-resistant, and thermal insulation materials made of concrete or other materials
It is important to produce concretes and mortars with enhanced physical and thermal properties for the linings of thermal units operating under difficult operating conditions. Heat-resistant concretes are used in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, chemical and oil refining, petrochemical, energy, mechanical engineering, and pulp and paper industries, as well as in the production of construction materials. The components of heat-resistant concretes, such as finely ground additives and fillers, are usually made from expensive materials (such as fireclay, mullite, chromite, magnesite, zircon, etc.). Replacing these scarce and expensive components with local materials and developing a technology for producing heat-resistant concretes using chemical binders and non-scarce materials, especially industrial waste, is an important task.
Thus, a large-tonnage technogenic waste of production of JSC "Aluminum of Kazakhstan" is bauxite sludge, obtained during the processing of bauxite into alumina. For one ton of alumina, about four tons of sludge are obtained. One of the main ways of sludge disposal in the field of construction production is the use of sludge as an iron-alumina component of the raw mixture in the manufacture of Portland cement clinker.
