The Department of Geodesy and Cartography originates from the Department of Engineering Geodesy, formed at the Tselinograd Civil Engineering Institute (CISI) in 1965. The department was a service department and served a wide range of technical specialties.
In the early 1990s, due to a decrease in the number of students and the number of teaching staff, the department was attached to the Department of "Building Materials".
Since the end of 2008, a new history of the department begins, when by order of the Rector of the L. N. Gumilev ENU, the Department of Engineering Graphics and Geodesy was established on the basis of the Department of Construction and Transport Systems.
In 2009, the first enrollment for the bachelor's degree in Geodesy and Cartography was held.
In 2010, the department opened a master's degree in Geodesy.

In 2015, the department moved from the CSIS building, where it spent exactly 50 years, to the new ULC building No. 6.
Since October 2015, he has been the head of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography, Ph.D., Professor Auchieva Zh. M. - an active social activist and organizer.
The Department of Geodesy and Cartography actively participates in the social life of the university. Students of the department constantly take prizes at sports events of various levels, including international ones.
The Department of Geodesy and Cartography has activated the work of branches of the department on the basis of existing enterprises. Namely, on the basis of a memorandum between the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, the Department of Geodesy and Cartography and JSC NC Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary (KGS), KIE Kazakhstan LLP, Gosgradkadastr RSE, GEOID LLP, KazAeroSpace LLP, agreements on the establishment of branches were concluded the Department of Geodesy and Cartography of ENU at the enterprise.
As part of the training program for the space industry of Kazakhstan, students of the department undergo industrial and pre-graduate practice at the National Space Center. On the basis of cooperation agreements, since January 2016, students and undergraduates have been studying in practice at JSC NC "Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary".
An important factor is the cooperation of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of the L.N.Gumilyov ENU with other universities implementing an educational program in the specialty "Geodesy and Cartography" and "Geodesy" or specialties similar in content.
The list of universities includes: KazNITU, KAZGAS, Map of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies (SSUGiT, Moscow State Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (MIIGAiK), Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU).
In cooperation with these higher educational institutions, the following are implemented: internal and external mobility of students; invitations of leading scientists; scientific internships of students, teachers; exchange of experience, etc.

The 3rd-year student of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography, Nugmanova Zhuldyz N., was recognized as the winner of the republican competition of student scholarships of the First President Foundation.
From April 20 to 22, 2022, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held the II stage of the XIV Republican Student Subject Olympiad online, in which the GeoCart Capture Master's team consisting of students of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography of the L. N. Gumilev Eurasian National University (Kabulov I., Amanzholova A., Nugmanova Zh.)
According to the results of the Republican subject Olympiad, the GeoCart Capture Master's team, consisting of students of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography, took the team I place. Among the students in the individual competition, Nugmanova Zh. took 2nd place, Amanzholova A. – 3rd place. According to the results of the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad held within the framework
of the educational program 6B07311 — "Geodesy and Cartography"
On April 29–30, 2025, the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad in the Geodesy and Cartography educational program was traditionally held at the premises of K. I. Satbayev Kazakh National Technical Research University. The Olympiad brought together 7 teams from 5 higher education institutions of the country, where participants demonstrated their knowledge and professional skills. The participating universities were:

According to the decision of the jury, first place was awarded to the “GeOkezen” team of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography of L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University
