SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF "ARCHITECTURE"
At the Department of Architecture, research activities are carried out by the teaching staff together with students in the most current and promising areas:
- History and theory of architecture, preservation of architectural heritage.
- Architectural design of residential and public buildings, architectural aspects of the environment, formation of urban space.
- Integrated design of energy-efficient buildings and innovative solutions in architectural design.
Employees of the department make presentations at major conferences and work as members of the jury of architectural competitions and olympiads.
The management and staff of the department are in constant interaction with representatives of the architectural and construction industry, with successful companies and firms. Thus, modern trends in architectural design, current trends and promising areas of work are reflected in the activities of the department.
Teachers of the department are members of creative unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan: the Union of Designers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Union of Architects of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Union of Urban Planners of the Republic of Kazakhstan and one employee is a corresponding member of the International Academy of Architecture of Eastern Countries.
In the period from 2015 to 2017, under the program “Grant funding for scientific research” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a research project was carried out on the topic: “Transformation of the architecture of cities in Kazakhstan (identification and study of regional features of the architectural heritage and modern architecture of Kazakhstan)”, under the leadership of R. Chekaeva. U. The results of scientific research were introduced into the educational process in a series of lectures on regional architecture, in practical classes, during measurement and familiarization practices, and were published in scientific and educational literature - monographs, textbooks, articles. In total, for the period 2015-2017, based on the results of scientific research, 24 titles of scientific and educational works were written and published: 4 monographs, 9 textbooks in Russian, 2 textbooks in Kazakh, 4 catalogs, 3 educational guidelines, 2 methodological recommendations. The study examined buildings and structures that were not previously covered in the literature, important for determining the process of evolution of the architecture of cities in Northern Kazakhstan, such as Petropavlovsk, Kokchetav, Kustanai, Pavlodar, belonging to the so-called “industrial belt” of Kazakhstan.
In the period from 2018 to 2020, the project was completed: AP05135526 “Research of new designs and products of the yurt, as the basis of the newest architectural form” by the scientific supervisor – Malibekova Zh. M., articles were published in the RSCI journal and in publications indexed in Scopus with non-zero impact factor.
As is known, a quantitative characteristic of the productivity of scientists is the Hirsch index. To date, the Hirsch index (SCOPUS) and articles indexed in Scopus have the following employees of the department: Sadykova S. Sh., Semenyuk O. N., Chekaeva R. U., Khvan E. N., Chernysh N. A., Isina A. Z., Arynov K.K., Mamedov S.E., Malibekov Zh.M., Duisebaev U., Duisebay E.K., Bisenova Zh.S., Sarsembayeva D.E. Students and undergraduates, under the guidance of scientists and experienced teachers, engage in scientific work, take part in student scientific conferences, and use their scientific material in theses. Under the leadership of Chekaeva R.U. The “Architect” circle is working. Scientific works of teachers and students are published in university collections. Diploma projects, carried out on topics relevant to Astana, regularly win prizes at international and republican competitions of diploma projects and are exhibited at various professional exhibitions.

Students and undergraduates of the department are regular participants and winners of annual prestigious republican and international competitions.
Students are engaged in scientific research through the “Architect” circle under the leadership of Chekaeva R.U., and participate in international conferences.
Under the guidance of Doctor of Architecture, Professor Arynov K.K. Students annually participate in International competitions, such as:
- International competition of creative works among students and undergraduates of the creative specialty: “Problems of architecture and design. Art and exhibition. Historical experience and the latest trends", Moscow (Russia), in 2018 (Abatov E. 3rd degree diploma, Dosmaganbetov D. 3rd degree diploma, M. Kok. 2nd degree diploma, K. Mergenov 3rd degree diploma, Izimova S. 1st degree diploma, for work);
- ХVIII International Youth Architectural and Art Festival “Golden ArchIdea-2019” in Tyumen (Russia), 2019 (A. B. Uakhitova, 1st degree diploma, A. Zhanbyrova, 2nd degree diploma);
- XIX International Youth Architectural and Art Festival “Golden ArchIdea-2020” in Tyumen (Russia), in 2020 (Merkebay G. 3rd degree diploma, Zinabdin G. 3rd degree diploma);

Additional ways to interact with production are scientific seminars (monthly), which help improve the efficiency of training future specialists. So, in the period from 2021 to 2023, scientific seminars were held for students with production representative Nekrashevich D. (Technical Specialist of Saint-Gobain LLP) on the topics: “Energy efficient technologies in construction”, “Structural solutions for facades using external thermal insulation systems for buildings ", "Acoustic solutions", "Energy-efficient design and construction of public buildings", "Design features in the design of flat roofs", "Fire protection of buildings and structures", "Modern building mixtures for interior decoration", "Lightweight enclosing structures (partitions)". In the first half of the 2023-2024 academic year, seminars were held in accordance with the plan, such as: “Flat and pitched roofs” 09/27/2023 lecturer Nekrashevich D., head of the technical department of Saint-Gobain; “The practice of designing residential buildings in the UK and beyond beyond its borders" 04.10.2023 was conducted by Dila Gokalp master, a qualified architect and urban planner of the Faculty of Architecture of Istanbul Technical University (ITU); “Fundamentals of urban planning” 11/15/2023 lecturer Mamedov S.E. Associate Professor, Doctor PhD; “Understanding Contextual Responsive Urban Spaces” 12/11/2023 lecturer Professor Muhammad Faisal Rehman.
All achievements of the department in science are reflected in more detail in the annual report.
